Othello and the human conditio essays
Othello and the human conditio essays Othello is a play written by William Shakespeare about the tragedy of a black army general who is fatally flawed by jealousy. This human quality, this condition, is expressed through Othello; his character clearly highlights how someone morally good can also experience dark emotions. He felt guilty about resorting to ugly, barbaric means to his end despite the fact that anyone else in his position would have done the same. The main human condition in Othello is this feeling of guilt. Another aspect of this is there is a difference in the mannerism of a modern Venetian (Iago) and a primitive Moor (Othello). The difference is that to survive as a Moor, Othello has to be honest and trustworthy. This is because he needs his people to support him due to his inability to survive in any another way than resorting to primitive means. Iago, on the other hand, has no need for others to trust him. Instead, he takes advantage of other people like Roderigo to make himself rich. At the start of the play Iago debates on why Cassio was chosen over him by Othello. Here Othello is unknown to the audience, and Iago appears to be justified in his argument. His justification comes from the fact that he has battled by Othello's side for years, whereas Cassio is "a Florentine, ... That never set a squadron in the field, ... Mere prattle without practice is all his soldiership" (Iago - Act1, Scene1). While Iago's identity is hidden, he is extremely crude in addressing Brabantio; "Even now, now, very now, an old black ram is tupping your white ewe..." (Iago - Act 1, Scene1), whereas in front of Othello he is far more respectable; "Those are the raised father and his friends; You were best go in" (Iago - Act1, Scene2). Iago is manipulative, as we see here, and back then it would have seemed odd to an English audience. To a Venetian, this currency based nature was natural, and wealth was valued more than honesty much like our modern day world. This represen...

Using the Spanish Word Todo
Using the Spanish Word Todo Todo is a common Spanish adjective and pronoun that typically means all or every. Like most other adjectives, todo must match the noun it refers to in number and gender; when used as a pronoun, it also changes with number and gender according to the noun it replaces. Using Todo As an Adjective As an adjective, todo can come either directly before the noun or frequently before the definite article that comes before a noun. In this usage, todo is typically the equivalent of the English all before a plural noun and every before a singular noun. Vamos a tomar todas las medidas apropiadas para eliminar la discriminacià ³n. (We are going to take all appropriate means to eliminate discrimination.)Tenemos zapatos de todos tipos y colores. (We have shoes of all types and colors.)Todo el tiempo estoy pensando en ti. (I am thinking about you all the time.)Todas las personas son iguales, pero unas son ms iguales que otras. (All persons are equal, but some are more equal than others.)Hawi es el estado con mayor porcentaje de gente asitica de todo Estados Unidos. (Hawaii is the state with the highest percentage of Asian people in all of the United States.)El papa ha afirmado que toda persona tiene derecho a emigrar. (The pope has stated that each person has the right to emigrate.) Using Todo As a Pronoun As a pronoun, todo and its variations typically have the meaning of all, although the context can require other translations: Todo es posible. (Everything is possible.)Todos fueron a la playa. (They all went to the beach. Or, everyone went to the beach.)Todas estamos bajo mucha presià ³n. (All of us are under a lot of pressure.)Todo puede cambiar de un segundo. (Everything can change in a second.)Todo est bien. (All is well.)No todos quieren hacer negocio en Internet. MiscellaneousUses for Todo Sometimes, todo can be used to add emphasis: El corazà ³n latà a a toda velocidad cuando te vi. (My heart was beating at a high speed when I saw you.)Te lo mostramos con todo detalle. (Were showing it to you in great detail.)Visitar Manzanillo es toda una aventura. (Visiting Manzanillo is quite an adventure.) Consumer Behavior Bachelor Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words
Consumer Behavior Bachelor - Essay Example This product-centric view of market segments has been long discarded as being inadequate for very logical and plausible reasons. For any given product or service, there are usually at least four or five different segments of prospective customers that may utilize that product to solve a particular problem or satisfy a specific need. Each one of these segments will have different needs and values. But companies with a product-centric view cannot even sight these differences not to approach the issue of comprehending them and using them to advantage in their marketing plans. They end up treating the various customers' segments with a one-size-fits-all, generic solution. This fixated view is virtually a chink in the armor which competitors are waiting to pounce upon. In fact such an approach works to leave entry gates to the various segments wide open to the competitor. The competitor quietly enters in, reads the consumer needs and behavior and positions his products attributes and qual ities with requisite differentiation to make up a most relevant product bundle to the most valuable segment and skim it happily. Therefore it is a prudent marketing stance to examine in depth not only one's own products and services but also the market of users for such products and services. ... Market Segmentation We have always stayed with a short menu of brands as a strategic focus. Some critical buyer behavior shifts, however, have defined new segments. Newer needs have emerged which help consumers acquire and reinforce newer images. Our products have to transform to address these needs. First our smokers had turned health conscious primarily as a result of robust state funded and persistent campaign against smoking highlighting its hazards. The macho image of Marlboro man was overcast by dark health awareness clouds. Then there was a distinct movement towards several other 'light' consumer goods the consumption of which defined an entirely new segment of consumers; movement was fuelled by both factors viz.health consciousness as well as to be a part of this new sophisticated 'light' segment. We found that this movement was particularly strong among the young, educated urban dweller in the developed world. This was a fairly strong external stimuli driving consumers to Lights. This was imme diately set as the Marlboro Light's target group. We further discovered that this breed of consumer ate low fat spread, drank light beers, used ozone friendly deodorant, drove a lead free car and had a distinct preference to smoke Marlboro Lights. To many smokers around the world, Marlboro Lights presented a product image of a definitive light cigarette. It was serving two internal consumer ambitions viz to be identified as a Macho Man without hurting health or being Macho in a 'clinical' manner. Marlboro Light was a big success with this segment cutting across demographic lines. Soon a gap was perceived by us when we found

civil war :: essays research papers
à à à à à The Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars of all time, and it was fought by people of the same country. It is amazing to think that such a thing could have happened to this country. About 260,000 rebel soldiers and 373,000 Union soldiers were killed (Text, pg. 378). The reason for such a high number of deaths is mainly because most battles of the war involved about 200,000 soldiers. With this many people fighting at once, there are bound to be a huge number of deaths. Another factor to the high death count is the fact that newer and better weapons were being developed. The new technology allowed guns to be more accurate and even more deadly. This, combined with the lack of medical attention, made it more likely that you would die in battle, than survive. Many soldiers could not make it to medics in time, and even when they got there, many of the medics were not sufficiently trained. This is sad to see, but they needed all the ââ¬Å"doctorsâ⬠they could get . à à à à à According to Alger, Cahan, and Gold, success usually was trading rags for respectability, not for great wealth (Text, pg. 472). Most of Algerââ¬â¢s stories tended to be glorified. Not many people really did make it the way that Algerââ¬â¢s characters did. Cahan gives a more realistic tale of this rag to riches theory by showing the spiritual loss that comes along with the material gain. Gold tells even grimmer stories of people how just flat out donââ¬â¢t ââ¬Å"make itâ⬠. These are all different views on the theory, but all have truth behind them. Historians generally measured success by categorizing occupations. They then do random questioning and see what nationalities have become more successful according to job ranking. This is extremely inaccurate. First of all, there is no way that each nationality is fairly represented in these polls. Some countries, or even people, looking at the micro level, may judge success in different ways.

Great Expectations Notes on Guilt Essay
In analysing Great Expectations, Dorothy Van Ghent maintains that there are two kinds of crime that drive the moral plot of the novel: the crime of parent against child and the calculated social crime ââ¬Å"of turning the individual into a machineâ⬠. Thus, in the same way that the parent or the parent figure abuses the child, social authority also participates in creating parents who participate in the dehumanization of the children. (sons heir of fathers sin, repeat in society over n over) Van Ghent puts forward many of her ideas in an extremely extravagant, descriptive and floury manner, which at times is difficult to follow. I feel that Van Ghent approaches `Great Expectations` from a mainly`Psychoanalytical literary criticism approach`, because her analysis of the text is primarily concerned with the idea of feelings, desires and guilt that Pip carries and because guilt and desire are repressed by Pip they can only appear indirectly in the text. In Great Expectations Pip`s repressed guilt and â⬠¦.occur and appear indirectly through. Van Ghent identifies a psychic context for Great Expectations in which I feel she focuses on Pip`s psycho drama competing desires of trying to redeem himself of sins (his and his fathers) and of wanting to attain the status of being a gentleman and no longer being coarse and common. I feel this represents a psychoanalytical approach because these issues frame Van Ghent analysis, above the significance of the social, historical or other contexts which could be used by critics. Van Ghent focuses on the ââ¬Å"unconscious motives and feelings of a character (Pip) depicted in the textâ⬠ââ¬â one of the psychoanalytical theorists do (P100 Beginning theory)

Lewis Structure Example Problem - Formaldehyde
Lewis dot structures are used to predict the geometry of a molecule. You will be able to draw a Lewis structure of the formaldehyde molecule after using this equation. Question Formaldehyde is a toxic organic molecule with molecular formula CH2O. Draw the Lewis structure of formaldehyde. Step 1 Find the total number of valence electrons. Carbon has 4 valence electronsHydrogen has 1 valence electronsOxygen has 6 valence electronsTotal valence electrons 1 carbon (4) 2 hydrogen (2 x 1) 1 oxygen (6)Total valence electrons 12 Step 2 Find the number of electrons needed to make the atoms happyCarbon needs 8 valence electronsHydrogen needs 2 valence electronsOxygen needs 8 valence electronsTotal valence electrons to be happy 1 carbon (8) 2 hydrogen (2 x 2) 1 oxygen (8)Total valence electrons to be happy 20 Step 3 Determine the number of bonds in the molecule.number of bonds (Step 2 - Step 1)/2number of bonds (20 - 12)/2number of bonds 8/2number of bonds 4 Step 4ââ¬â¹ Choose a central atom.Hydrogen is the least electronegative of the elements, but hydrogen is rarely the central atom in a molecule. The next lowest electronegative atom is carbon. Step 5: ââ¬â¹ Draw a skeletal structure. Connect the other three atoms to the central carbon atoms. Since there are 4 bonds in the molecule, one of the three atoms will bond with a double bond. Oxygen is the only choice in this case since hydrogen only has one electron to share. Step 6: ââ¬â¹ Place electrons around outside atoms. There are 12 valence atoms total. Eight of these electrons are tied up in bonds. The remaining four complete the octet around the oxygen atom. Each atom in the molecule has a complete outer shell full of electrons. There are no electrons left over and the structure is complete. The finished structure appears in the picture at the beginning of the example.
